So after reading over several other "Our America" projects I realized I may not have done this the correct way or as eloquently but here it goes. . .
For most of my life I’ve lived in fairly small towns, the same stereotypical small town where you know everybody and everybody know you, and I think this has shaped me as a person. I was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia and lived near there in Norfolk, Virginia until sometime shortly after my 6th birthday at which time we moved into a nice farmhouse in the Iowa countryside to be closer to my mom’s side of the family. Throughout many of my younger years my family never had much money and I had to deal with several deaths in the family, one of which was my best friend. I think having lived in a household where we didn’t have a whole lot of extra money taught me to be a very hard worker and since the age of 14 I’ve had various jobs to try and work for my own money. Don’t get me wrong, I was well provided for but my parents stretched their bank account letting me have the things I wanted and the things they didn’t have when they were children. Dealing with several deaths in the family taught me how to appreciate my family and learn that family always comes first, no matter what. In high school I was always trying to conform to what I thought others wanted me to be. Rather than doing things for myself I was always trying to please others. When I came to college I finally realized that being myself was much more important than trying to fit into what others thought I should be. I found out that by being myself I was a much happy person and I ended up having more friends than I think I had in high school. My values tended to stay the same from high school til now. I cherish family, friends, hard work, and trying to be responsible, to list only a few. I love listening to music, playing video games, and hanging out with friends in general and I don’t think that will ever change; my friends and hobbies are what make me. I strive hard to achieve my goals. I really want to graduate college and go on to teach English in high school, not just for my family to be proud of me but because of that feeling of accomplishment and pride in one’s own work is something that I want to say I feel. I was raised by astounding parents and having a family and children in the future is very important to me. Although I could go on for hours about myself and the goals I want to accomplish there are just far too many to fit in one page (although I’ve already exceeded that limit) but if there is anything anyone ever wants to know about myself I am a very open person and encourage questions.
